Arrival: January 12, Chicago, IL
We spent the last week in Chicago and made a side trip down to Indiana to visit some college friends.
We feel somewhat like cheaters this last week and a half, seeing as though we've only slept in our van once. We stayed in the REI(Recreational Equipment Inc.) parking lot to hit an early morning sale. We stood in line starting at 6am for two hours in 4 degree weather. I can't say it was the most fun I've ever had, but we did end up with some good equipment for our trip.
We spent New Year's in downtown Chicago with some friends, sang Karaoke, went to a couple parties. The following week we caught up on some much needed sleep and Simon worked. We left for Indiana that Saturday after a memorial service in the suburbs for my high school choir teacher. It was a really touching service and I'm glad I happened to be in the area.
We arrived in Bloomington Saturday night to visit a college friend and stayed three nights. We had a great time; a diamond in the ruff for Indiana, if you ask me. We went to a neat breakfast spot called "The Runcible Spoon," did some exterior decorating to our van (in the form of bumper stickers of course), went on a tour of the Upland Brewery, saw "Avatar" at the movie theater (if you haven't seen it, WOW! A three hour movie that seemed more like 10 minutes and a great message for our time)and helped them redecorate their new house. PFEW!
Our breakfast at "The Runcible Spoon." My fellow diners were not too happy that I wanted to take pictures... we were all famished, but it looked incredible and tasted about the same
Here we eat!
Just a few of our many bumper stickers. If you couldn't tell, the background of this blog is the back of our mini-van. I've decided Html coding isn't exactly what I was meant for. I have no idea how I coded for so many vans.
Upland Brewery. Huge Lambic barrel.
Bathroom at the Spoon (no, I don't love this place at all)
And now we are off to visit our respective colleges. We will spend the day in Terre Haute, IN and then head north again to Chicago. After that, Northern Minnesota to visit a friend and then... well, we haven't quite figured out a route to Vancouver.
